Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween! I would like to share a brief summary of how a Title 1 math class is organized.  The structure of the 30 minute Title 1 math class is similar for 3rd, 4th and 5th grades.  We begin with a review of the concepts and skills that we have been working on as well as a computation skill.  Students write their answers on a small white board and show me their answers when I say, "Show".  This is a formative assessment technique that allows me to see if each student is secure or not with a particular concept or skill.  If not, I know that I have more work to do with the student(s) that is not quite there.  Next, I teach a short lesson followed by student practice.  Finally, students complete an exit ticket.  An exit ticket is essentially a mini quiz, used NOT for a grade but instead to inform me of how much my students understood the day's lesson and what work I need to do to prepare for the next class.
